Congratulations Martino & Alessia on your wedding day from us all here at Teretta Foundation in Tanzania.
We wish you many years of good health, happiness and love on your journey together.
Heartfelt thanks for choosing to support our project where we support, educate and accommodate almost fifty at risk and under privileged children in many different communities in the Kilimanjaro area, many of whom were destined for child marriage and labour. The NGO was set up by two Mothers one from Ireland, Lenore and the other, Teddy from Tanzania who met over five years ago and have been supporting many projects for years but felt it was time to build their own and make a real hands on difference in the heart of the community.
We work with the families and communities who we also try to educate about family planning, provide skills to use for local employment and also remain in close contact with regarding the childrens progress. The families are welcome to come and visit on holidays and we had a recent celebratory event in May which was a beautiful day for all.
Background checks and home visits with community leaders are all done as part of the process to determine what children are a priority as each individual case differs. We have many families who do not have the means to provide meals, we have found children collapsed due to hunger, many who want help for their children to escape a path that was set out for them like child marriage or working from the age of five to help contribute to the family dynamic, or who are stuck in a loop there was otherwise no way out of.
As we grow and raise more funds we can eventually provide a home to 96 children, a dining hall and build a primary school for over 300 children which will be incredible for the area, as we know an education can provide a foundation like no other.
Our project aims to be self sustainable where we plan to grow our own food, have our own well for water and build guest accommodation and amenities on site which will in turn help to provide the running costs of the school, home for the children and teachers wages long term, which helps reduce the pressure to consistently fundraise and enables us to focus all our energy on the project and children.
Many of our children spoke Maa language when they came to us in February and are now being taught in English to give them the best opportunity. They are now thriving receiving five meals a day and regular healthcare checks with our doctor.
Thanks to your support and generous donation we can help change the trajectory of many lives, in particular provide new individual school books for all of our children for the new term in July and also help support the costs for a full school year for one of our local children who will now be able to start secondary school, which is absolutely incredible as without your donation this would not have been possible.
The children were very excited to help make the Maasai bracelets and take photographs to help play a small part of your big day today.
If you would like to come on one of our community trips to visit, climb Kilimanjaro with us for Teretta, do a trip to see the beauty of Tanzania with the local agents we help provide employment for who support our foundation, perhaps sponsor a child monthly or simply follow our story and all that we do, check out our instagram @terettafoundation where we update the page regularly about the project journey, upcoming trips, our build and most importantly our beautiful children.
We look forward to seeing you here in Tanzania.
Hongera sana from all at Team Teretta.
