At Teretta Foundation, our mission is simple: to create a safe, nurturing environment for children in Tanzania who have experienced abuse, neglect, and hardship.
Founded on the values of compassion, love, and community, we aim to provide refuge and hope to the most vulnerable in society.
MISSION & HISTORY.
The heart of Teretta Foundation lies in providing a safe house for children in the Kilimanjaro region who are at high risk of abuse, child marriage, genital mutilation and malnutrition. These children often have no one to trust or care for them. We work tirelessly to ensure they have a secure place to live, access to education, and the opportunity to experience the love, care, and protection every child deserves.
We are committed to building a sustainable future for these children by providing them with not just shelter, but also education and life skills to help them break free from the cycles of abuse and poverty.
Our Story.
Teretta Foundation began with an email sent in 2019 by our founder, who wanted to help children in a school near where she would be staying while climbing Kilimanjaro. What started as a small gesture turned into a life-changing mission that bridged two countries and touched countless lives.
Over time, our founder's love for Tanzania deepened, as did her commitment to the children in the community. Alongside her partner Teddy Chuwa, they combined their hearts and efforts to create the Teretta Foundation, a tribute to their grandmothers, Teresa (Teddy) and Etta, who instilled in them the values of giving back and caring for others.
Our Impact So Far.
Since its inception, Teretta Foundation has achieved remarkable milestones through the support of our global community:

Helped 26 young people attend college, giving them a chance to change their lives.

Provided 540 children with a memorable day out, including their first-ever bus ride and a swimming experience.

Supplied a full year of food for schools for two consecutive years, ensuring that children do not go hungry.

Delivered over five pallets of donated items, including school supplies and medical equipment.

Funded over thirty wheelchairs for children with disabilities, giving them freedom of mobility for the first time in their lives.
Why We Do It.
We’ve seen first-hand how life in Tanzania can feel like an unjust lottery. Many children, through no fault of their own, are born into circumstances where safety and dignity are not guaranteed. We feel a deep responsibility to stand up for these children, to be their voice, and to provide them with the love, care, and opportunities that should be their birthright.
By working with local partners, we ensure that every donation, every bit of support goes directly to those who need it most, without interference from corrupt or inefficient systems. This is personal for us. Every child we help is a child who now has a chance at a better future.
